When patients present to our office with concussion we can often localize the injured areas of the brain by performing specific tests. We can then improve the performance of these injured areas through specific rehabilitative exercises targeted at these weak areas. This diagram illustrates that injured axons in the brain cause slow responses and reduced accuracy which lead to concussion symptoms. Research has shown that the brain is malleable and changeable (plastic). Through the process of neuroplasticity (changing the brain and nervous system through targeted exercises), patients can regain function.
